Transportation Authority executive director Chuck MacNeil appeared
before the council to thank it for supporting the
transportation system. MacNeil said he would be remiss if he did
not take the opportunity now, before the terms of Mayor
Watkins and several members of council come to an end.
"In the coming weeks and months there will be a new mayor and
new council members,"MacNeil said. "I wanted to extend, on behalf
of the many people that use this service and support the service,
my sincere gratitude and appreciation of the support of this mayor
and this city council to allow us to sustain this important service
in this community.
MacNeil gave special recognition to Councilwoman Dyan Cohen, who
has been a vocal supporter of the transit system.
"I want to extend a particular appreciation to one who has, it
is no secret, championed for PDRTA", MacNeil said. "When I first
came here four years ago, Dyan reached out to me and I was floored
by how intersested she was in the service and how tirelessly she
wanted to work; it was almost like I had an unpaid volunteer on
staff. I was surprised to get calls from her while she was on the
bus. She was a frequent user and she practiced what she
Cohen was presented an honorary lifetime bus pass plaque "for
many years of service and support". She was also given a regular
photo identification pass because her plaque might be to bulky to
carry on a regular basis.
